  4. Born in 1941 in Vienna, Austria. Study of Mathematics at the
  5. Universities of Vienna (Austria) and Calgary (Canada) starting in 1959.
  6. System Analyst with the Government of Saskatchewan (Canada) in 1963. 
  7. Mathematician- programmer with IBM Research in Vienna 1964--1966. Ph.D. in 
  8. Mathematics from the University of Vienna 1965. Assistant and Associate 
  9. Professor for Computer Science at the University of Calgary 1966--1971. Full 
  10. Professor for Applied Computer Science at the University of Karlsruhe, West 
  11. Germany, 1971-1977, and Visiting Professor at SMU, Dallas, and University of 
  12. Brasilia (Brazil) for three months, each, and at the University of Waterloo, 
  13. during the same period. Full Professor at the Graz University of Technology 
  14. since 1978. In addition, director of the Research Institute
  15. for Applied Information Processing of the Austrian Computer Society since 1983;
  16. chairman of Institute for Information Processing  and Computer Supported New Media
  17. since 1988, and director of the Institute for Multi-Media Information Systems 
  18. of Joanneum Research since April 1990.  Adjunct Professor at Denver University 
  19. 1984--1988. Professor for Computer Science at the University of Auckland, New 
  20. Zealand, since Feb. 1, 1993 (on leave from Graz).

  22. Author of eleven books and over 300 scientific contributions, holder of patent
  23. for optical storage device, referee for a number of journals and publishing
  24. companies, editor of a series of research papers, member of the board of
  25. various institutions. Member of program committee of a number of international
  26. conferences. Chairman of Working Group Hypermedia Systems in Austria. Project 
  27. manager of a number of multimillion-dollar undertakings including the development of the
  28. colour-graphic micro MUPID, the distributed CAI-system  COSTOC,
  29. multi-media projects such as "Hyper-G", or "Images of Austria" (Expo'92), and 
  30. electronic publishing projects.
